This past weekend, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) unveiled their much anticipated KAWS exhibition, featuring 70 works both old and new of the artist. Much of the work on display, including the seminal Kimpsons series, carefully blends into the museum space, juxtaposing PAFA’s distinguished collection with the sculptures and paintings of the artist. Especially commissioned for the show is a new, nine foot Bendy sculpture, adorning the museum’s exterior. This major exhibition follows the highly publicized KAWS makeover of MTV’s iconic moon man earlier this year; it’s safe to say KAWS has cemented his status as a household name in lexicon of pop culture.
