Just go where the margaritas take you.
Map out a few must-see spots. Document (almost) everything. Seek out locals for advice. And pack snacks.
I LOVE TRAVELING BECAUSE…
It gives me all the feels. There’s nothing more extraordinary than exploring an unfamiliar place and gaining a better understanding of a culture different than your own.
What made you decide on this destination?
Every blogger’s Instagram photos are reason enough to go. But my close girlfriend Katherine has been going to Tulum for years — and has told me time and time again that it’s very me, in terms of the overall vibe. She was spot-on. I also hadn’t been to Mexico in a few years and was itching to get back.
How did this trip come together?
I believe that every big birthday warrants a trip. So when my 30th was coming up, I enlisted my best friend — who was about to make a big move from NYC to Dallas — and we booked it, as a celebration of these new life chapters. Tulum had everything we were looking to get out of our next getaway: sun, yoga, and tacos.
Best form of transportation?
Bike! Everywhere! Except maybe not into town, because we did that on a scorching hot day and it was quite the trek.
Highlights and favorite things?
If I had only one day in Tulum, I’d have a healthy breakfast at Sanara’s The Real Coconut Cafe, get a massage on the beach, go into town to score some basket bags and dreamcatchers, load up on tacos at Nomade (a bohemian oasis), get cocktails under the disco ball at Gitano, and finish the night with pasta and a glass of wine at Posada Margarita.
Under the radar must-see or do?
Take a swim in one of the many Cenotes, and book a dinner at The Kitchen Table. Trust.
Nothing too crazy happened on this trip, and not going to lie, I couldn’t be happier.
Did you encounter any challenges leading up to or during the trip?
Beware of the mosquitos. I left Tulum covered in bites — the jungle is no joke.
3 words that sum up your experience.
Dreamy. Serene. Humid.
Looking back, what do you miss the most?
Morning bike rides before sunrise, the frozen grapefruit margaritas at Mulberry Project’s beach pop-up, and seeing dreamcatchers EVERYWHERE (I collect them).
Don’t overpack. It’s such a chill town, all you really need is a swimsuit, a few effortless coverups, and a pair of sandals.
Where to next?
Bali, Morocco, or Greece! Who wants to join?
DESCRIBE YOUR INSTAGRAM PHOTOGRAPHY AESTHETIC
I would say it’s whimsical and lighthearted — I like to document the things that mean the most to me: friends, family, art, and travel (with the occasional selfie and latte shot). My feed somewhat reflects my OCD in that it’s pretty clean, and the photos all sort of fit together.
Just do you. I appreciate both well-curated feeds, and feeds that, for lack of a better phrase, make no sense (in the best way).
