erched high on a quartz crystal mountain of Costa Rica lies, The Retreat, a boutique wellness property, and a haven to take care of yourself and recharge. Lush green mountains surround the stunning home which is just 40 minutes outside of the San Jose airport.
Travel trends are shifting focus on first-hand experiences in new and unusual locations with anticipation of self-reflection and personal development. Wellness chef and modern girl boss Diana Stobo gets this. She invites guests to rinse the weight and worry of modern stress through real food and energy healing at The Retreat. The refreshing essence is illuminated in a freshly prepared turmeric and pineapple juice drink upon arrival to the property.
Diana’s wellness concept offers a blank slate from which to grow a plentiful practice. Her approach allows the individual to ask for what they need. She helps cultivate a unique experience through conversation and food, all with a special touch. Group retreats are hosted frequently with an emphasis on cleansing and strengthening a deeper sense of self. Guests are also welcome to book their stay structure-free and simply indulge in the garden to table dining and daily yoga classes, which are both included in each stay. The simple experience of waking to the sound of nature and strolling into a morning yoga class followed by a healthy breakfast and pool time is enough to soothe any jetlag and kick an uplifting mindset into gear. The property hosts tours as well, with the must-do being the hike to a gold mine on site. Since quartz deposits contain gold and the property lies on a quartz crystal mountain, gold is spread throughout the land tuning the spiritual energy of The Retreat.
The vision for The Retreat started as a dream, a literal reoccurring dream of Diana’s where she found herself atop a mountain overlooking a landscape rich in nature. Diana originally purchased the plot of land without even seeing the grounds. She was helping a few close family members relieve themselves of owning residential property in Costa Rica. This factor plays into the ambiance, as it remains a welcoming home where both guests and employees are treated like family. The open concept kitchen encourages visitors to engage with the chef as they stroll through the house on their way to lounge at the pool. All meals are sourced locally, with the majority coming straight from the garden on site. This garden harvests everything from spinach and arugula to pineapples and a stevia plant. Head chef David Wang owned and operated a vegan restaurant in San Jose before joining The Retreat family. His dishes are inspired by Diana’s cookbook with exceptional presentation and nourishment.
This is the Costa Rica you will fall in love with. It’s the kind of place that stimulates emotional intuition and heartfelt connection. Diana Stobo has literally transformed her own life into a living dream. Her desire to share this joy and strength has cultivated the exact reason that The Retreat stands out from most wellness properties. It has personality. It has allure, and it wants you to find the best you, with a little Costa Rica flare.
