If you’re in Los Angeles, don’t miss The Total Look: The Creative Collaboration between Rudi Gernreich, Peggy Moffitt, and William Claxton which celebrates the collaboration between the late designer, model and muse Peggy Moffitt, and her late husband William, who photographed the distinct images of Moffitt modeling Gernreich’s designs.

A fearless designer and witty commentator on the climate of the 1960s, Rudi Gernreich’s body conscious designs dazzled the fashion world with originality and vision.  Working to free women from the constrained established clothing designs, the former dance teacher, who first worked in fabric design, is often remembered as the inventor of the first topless bathing suit and thong bathing suit.

Gernreich held a futurist vision of fashion that resulted in innovations such as using vinyl and plastic in clothes, removing inner construction from bathing suits and underpinnings, advocating unisex designs and creating clothing for space.
