x and Finch greets you with a relaxed vibe that could be mistaken for a hipster hangout, but the thoughtfully designed space is much more than that. This trendy spot in Glasgow has been a hit with locals and visitors alike since it opened in May 2014, and its popularity doesn’t seem to be going anywhere.
All dishes are served tapas style and arriving in no particular order. Even for those who shy away from “shared plates”, the presentation brings your meal together in an unpredictable way and makes for an experience. The variety of dishes you can try make this both a fun meal for two or an enjoyable way to share dinner with a group of friends while sampling the many offerings.
The menu ranges from small “snacks” to raw, cold plates, seafood and meats. Vegetables are not overlooked. There are plenty of creative options to complement your order, as well as a full vegetarian menu. The interesting wine list and clever cocktails round out the meal.
Chef and Owner Jonathan MacDonald has impressive chops in the kitchen. During his previous position as Head Chef with the McLaren F1 team he traveled the world, cooking for some of the most discerning guests across five continents. However, patrons of Ox and Finch are lucky that he eventually decided to return to his native Glasgow to open the aforementioned dining establishment. Proving that this popular spot is not fading, Ox and Finch recently won “Best New Scottish Restaurant” in The Scottish Variety Awards.
It is often tempting to judge a restaurant’s popularity on how difficult it is to get a reservation. The wait itself actually creates a buzz about the space and make it even harder to get a table. In the case of Ox and Finch all of this is true. Even though it is no longer the newest restaurant on the block, be sure to book your table ahead of time or you may find yourself in line. The wait, however, is very worth it. You’ll want to see for yourself.
