ali has long been a desired destination and increasingly grown as a base for creative folks to work whilst in search of a robust work-life balance. Thanks to the digital revolution, this endeavor can come to life with ease in the format of freelance work. Yet finding an original experience in such a known destination might deter the seasoned traveler. Enter Desa Seni Village Resort, a boutique artist resort on Bali’s south coast in Canngu. Here, the balance between tradition and modernity appeal to a traveler with laid-back luxury and deep local roots.
Green palms and stepping stones line the entryway past a tranquil pool to Desa Seni. Wooden homes with rustic doors and copper hardware aged in beautiful patina have been completely restored, each carrying its own story. Artifacts and antiques adorn the walls, reflecting true Indonesian culture and heritage, creating a sense of local immersion.
The home away from home experience extends to the cuisine: an eclectic array of Balinese ingredients like lemongrass, sugar-cane juice, saffron rice and seafood, all seasoned with healing Ayurvedic spices. Working with local businesses enables the hotel to focus on bringing cuisine direct from farm to table, with the majority of the produce grown on site.
Meals are enjoyed in the open air, and a path continues on towards a yoga deck and healing space, based on the concept of “Merapu Svaasthya” which means “spiritual wellness.” In the alcohol and wax-free spa, all products are made with ingredients from the island and the hotel’s organic garden.
Quiet mornings, community dining, healing cuisine and spiritual wellness paint a portrait of the perfect holiday. The quality of local life in this beautiful destination is indeed what makes it so special, so unique: a country fairytale in the island of Bali.
“This was probably the best hotel experience I have ever had. The place really stole my heart.”
