The ethos of the Pig Hotels is laid back – an approach to life where being immersed in a heritage atmosphere can happen without loosing sight of the new. The listed buildings are imbued with historical significance but welcome the new guests in a very British ‘live and let live’ approach to life.
Drawing from its strong shabby chic vibes and the unpretentious attitude of the brand, The Pig Hotel at Comb in Devon is the newest addition on an already strong portfolio of properties in exquisite places.
The charm of an English country stay is not only due to enchanting scenery but also the chance to experience quintessential British flair. The property in Devon for instance, is an Elizabethan architectural gem set in 500 acres of lush countryside, 8 miles south of the Devon coast and only 3 hours from London.
This new addition has many historical features as the Great Hall – converted to a main bar in a nod to a different arrival experience, less formal and full of fun with oversized sofas and convivial vibe. The property will have 27 bedrooms in the main house that carry the staple design of the Pig Hotel brand: spacious rooms, soft fabrics, countryside furniture in dark woods and views reaching out to the beautifully poetic fields. But the true gem here will be the 10 newly converted stable yard and coach house bedrooms that retain some of the original features: partitions, flooring and tiling.
The Pig Hotels host also beautiful restaurants that showcase organic produce and spas – some set within fragrant walled gardens in charming wooden sheds.
The hotels offer local experiences that include fishing, foraging, a seasonal music festival – a mellow, cosy mini festival called Smoked & Uncut – and food markets, depending on location: think local craft beers, scones with cream & jam, strawberries and nice folk chats abound.
